The Kings Regional Service Commission (RSC) is taking steps to address a gap in regional community transportation following the unexpected closure of Kings Regional Dial a Ride.

The RSC provides regional leadership and planning for transportation, while day-to-day operations are managed independently by service providers. With the closure of Kings Regional Dial a Ride, residents across the region are facing an immediate disruption in service.

This disruption is significant for many residents, including seniors, newcomers, and low-income households. Community organizations that relied on the service, including those receiving food bank deliveries, are also directly affected.

The RSC had been working proactively with Kings Regional Dial a Ride to strengthen accountability through a new memorandum of understanding and has already launched a transportation study to assess regional needs and provider capacity.

Regional Service Commissions have access to grant funds to support the development and delivery of community transportation. This funding continues to be available to the Kings region during this transition.

The RSC is working closely with provincial and community partners to identify interim solutions and to plan for long-term service delivery. Options under review include supporting existing capacity, engaging another provider, or exploring alternative models.

The Commission remains committed to ensuring that residents across the region have access to safe, affordable, and reliable community transportation.
