In addition to the mandated services of Solid Waste and Land Planning, there are other obligations that have been assigned to the Kings Regional Service Commission through the Regional Service Delivery Act, as part of local governance reform.
Specifically, the Commission must provide to its members a forum for discussion and action in these areas:
- Community Development
- Economic Development
- Public Safety
- Regional Recreational Planning
- Regional Transportation
- Tourism Promotion
The Regional Service Delivery Act gives the Commissions flexibility in identifying needs within its member communities and developing or offering services of benefit to them. These types of services are voluntary (in terms of member communities agreeing to receive and pay for the services) and should generally be offered through the development of specific agreements with the particular communities.
This area offers great possibilities for the advancement of the Commissions in terms of supporting their member communities, finding efficiencies and improving local service effectiveness and quality.
