Batteries and CFLs are Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and are not part of the curbside collection program.
Batteries
On behalf of the Kings Regional Service Commission, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your continuous support of the regional Battery Program. With your help and commitment, we have successfully diverted over 80,000 lbs of batteries from the landfill since the program’s inception in 2013.
When Kings RSC created this program, no formal province-wide system was in place to handle battery recycling in New Brunswick.
The Province of New Brunswick and Recycle NB have approved a Battery Stewardship Program Plan that commenced in January 2026 under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. EPR is an environmental policy that makes the original producers responsible for their products, from manufacturing to end-of-life disposal.
Call2Recycle has been selected by Recycle NB to serve as the Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) administering the new provincial battery recycling program starting in January 2026.
