The Kings RSC added regional Economic Development to its portfolio during the local governance reform process that was implemented by the Province of New Brunswick in 2023. This regional focus will allow better cooperation between local, provincial, and federal economic development initiatives.

The Standing Committee on Economic and Workforce Development is an industry-led working group representing key sectors from within the Kings region. This committee is responsible for creating a comprehensive economic development strategy to support the regional economy.

In addition to the committee working group, Kings RSC has established an intergovernmental Labour Market Partnership (LMP) with members of key partners that are ready to respond rapidly to sudden economic changes. First implemented in this region during the 2016 closure of one of the largest employers in the area, this rapid-response model has been used as a best-practice model and implemented throughout the province.
